Have you ever indulged in wishful thinking about sleep becoming an activity that helps you lose weight? Well we don’t quite have a way to make exactly that happen, but there are ways to help your battle weight loss before you hit the bed.
Water is the elixir
Water flushes out your system, which helps you get rid of any toxins or excesses in your body. But take our advice and complete your hydration target an hour before bed-time so you don’t disrupt your sleep with the urge to leap frog to the bathroom.
Keep your dinner low on sodium
Salt has a nasty quality of retaining water. So, you wake up puffier than usual. Try to make your dinner rich with protein with a side of steamed vegetables and go easy on the salt. The results will surprise you.
Consider a night workout
A 2013 survey from the National Sleep Foundation found that active people are 56 to 67 percent more likely to say they usually get a good night's sleep—no matter what time of day they exercise. So if you ever thought that the rush of adrenaline is going to keep you up, let that slide. Consider a slow walk right after dinner to remind your body to keep up the good work.
Ditch desert
The sugar craving at the end of the night is possibly the worst food habit. Your body does not need the extra calories and sugar, especially when your metabolism is at it’s slowest. The sugar spike will disrupt your sleep and the calories will disrupt your waistline. If you have an uncontrollable urge, try eating 4-6 prunes which are high in fibre and will help your digestion.
Make your bedroom as dark as you can
The human body produces a magic hormone called melatonin that helps the body produce brown fat. Brown fat burns more calories and to boost your body’s ability to produce this make sure the rooms has no light creeping in.
