A journey of thousand miles starts with a simple small step. When we talk about our life journey that single small step is to find out who we really are. I came across this sufi story in a book and found to be really insightful. A locksmith was once imprisioned unfairly by the king . He was very upset about it. However, he managed to escape from prison and later it was found out how. He used to pray regularly and his wife brought him a rug to use for his prayer. On the rug she had sewn the design of the lock. With that knowledge the locksmith made a key and was able to open and escape. Likewise, we feel imprisoned in the way we are today and if only we can understand the design of our self we can use that as a key to release ourselves and feel liberated. For most of us life is very mechanical in nature. We go through the daily grind in an auto-pilot mode. We jump from one task to another that we don't have time to reflect on why we are doing what we are doing. At some point we realize this sense of emptiness in us although for the outside world we lead a "normal" life. It is then we want to go back to that state of happiness we once enjoyed as a new born. At this point we do a turnaround and want to go back to that state. However, for this we need to overcome the years of conditioning that we are subject to.
